Driftpoint Media has become an official sponsor of the 2013 Barbells for Boobs campaign through our friends at Flower City Crossfit. On November 3rd, the Pink Bra Tour will make it’s final tour stop here in Rochester NY at Flower City Crossfit to help raise funds and awareness for early breast cancer detection.
Because this gym is so passionate about this event and were able to participate so much last year, Reebok is sending the bus. The Pink Bra Tour bus is stopping at Flower City Crossfit as one of 8 gyms across the country, finishing off it’s tour across America.
The WOD
The structure of the Crossfit universe revolves around a Workout Of the Day. This WOD, as it is referred as, is structured to push each person against themselves by targeting a goal of time or repetition count that keeps eat athlete pushing to their own abilities.
Within the system, certain WODs have become benchmarks of measurement among the athletes, associated with a female name. Where naming a workout “Nancy” or “Fran” means little to anybody else, it becomes a second language inside of the crossfit box.
This year’s workout for Barbells for Boobs consists of two WODs, back to back. The time of finishing both results in the finishing time of the individual or team. Meet Nancy & Grace…
Nancy
5 rounds
400 meter run
15 Overhead Squats (95lb/65lb)
Grace
30 Clean and Jerks
Individually the WODs are impressively humbling. Combined, they are more than a challenge for any athlete.
The Team
Every athlete entered has started a fund raising effort, so if you know somebody competing, please support them and this cause by considering a donation. They will have worked hard for it after that WOD. Every $80 raised, funds another mammogram.
Our very own Stephen Burke will be competing in the event that day, helping to raise money. In one of his smarter moves, Stephen has partnered with waterski phenom Phil Buehler to compete in the teams division. You may have seen Phil from our Facebook Page photos of that amazing waterskier. While traditionally this team is used to pulling on a 12″ wide bar, they will be lifting a 8 foot bar full of barbells to help raise awareness for this cause.
You can donate to either of these guys competing in the event, or click on the event overall to help support this cause.
